Getting ready for 2023

Welcome back after the winter break! I hope that you had a restful and rejuvenating time off.

Planning your 2023

To start off the year, I’d like to think about what you are focusing on for the coming year. You may well have:

  • The activities which you couldn’t (or wouldn’t!) do last year and so you put them off to January.

  • The objectives that you (or your boss) put in place at your end of year review.

  • The fantastic and innovative ideas that came to you when you were supposed to be on holiday and not thinking about work.

If you want to be successful, you’ll need to plan when you are going to work on these activities and how you are going to achieve them.

For each one then, set out the steps needed to get there; what support you might need; and how long it could take. I like Gantt charts for this. You could use a project management tool or app, or even a template in Excel.

Setting these out together will help you to see where there are useful overlaps or dependencies. This will help you tackle your activities in a smart order, without getting overloaded by too many things requiring your action at the same time.

Any activities which require additional support can also be noted, so you can then work backwards and ensure that the resources you need can be arranged in good time.

I’m live on LinkedIn

On Tuesday, January 10, I’ll be taking part in the Decision Intelligence Directors Series, which is a 15-minute LinkedIn Live interviews hosted by Kate Tickner of Pyramid Analytics.

We go live at 11am ET / 4pm GMT. Register here.
